Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a trained-operator 3D scanning technician to perform handheld scans for concrete and industrial projects. You will capture data on site, process it in Artec Studio, and deliver meshes, point clouds, and CAD-ready outputs for client use.

You must have hands-on scanning experience, familiarity with CAD drawings, and be able to travel to regional hubs. The role is hourly with potential growth into lead technician and project roles.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating handheld structured-light or laser scanners on real projects.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, and export.
• Familiarity with CAD and with reading structural or fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable record; able to travel with equipment.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD, Geomagic Design X, or metrology reporting is a plus; certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement and for damaged structures.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, and anchor bolt reports.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks; hand-clean meshes for modeling team.
• Document capture procedures, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
