Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D Scanning Technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, or Space Spider) on real projects, process data, and deliver scan-to-CAD outputs for engineering teams.

You will plan scans, verify data on site, and produce reports and meshes that support reverse engineering and fit-up checks. Travel to regional hubs is required, with emphasis on safety and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or similar scan-processing software.
• Familiarity with CAD drawings and reading structural or fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites, able to carry equipment and travel.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement and other structures.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture export to CAD formats.
• Produce deviation maps and measurement reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks.
• Document capture procedures, equipment settings, and chain of custody.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
