Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a trained 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners, capture critical pre-pour and as-built data, and deliver accurate CAD-ready meshes and reports. You will process data on-site and in Artec Studio, ensuring alignment with drawings and client specifications.

Role requires hands-on field work on construction sites and plants, with travel to regional hubs. We provide training on capture procedures, drift-control methods, and reporting templates

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating handheld structured-light or laser scanners on real projects.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, and export.
• Familiarity with CAD and reading structural/fabrication drawings.
• Ability to work on active construction sites and in industrial plants; capable of carrying equipment and climbing.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record.
• Willingness to travel to regional hubs as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features, tape-measure backbones, and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks, or hand clean meshes to the modeling team.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep the scanner, batteries, and calibration records in order.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
