Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a trained-operator 3D scanning technician. You will run handheld scanners (Artec Leo or equivalent), capture data on rebar, pipes, and structural details, and verify data on site before processing in Artec Studio. You produce meshes, reports, and scan-to-CAD deliverables for client use.

Role requires on-site work, ability to lift equipment, and travel to regional hubs. Pay is hourly with overtime when needed, based in the Houston area with regional assignments.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects; include examples.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or similar scan-processing software and exporting formats.
• Familiarity with CAD drawings and ability to read structural or fabrication drawings.
• Comfort on active construction sites and ability to carry equipment; travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of structures and components on site.
• Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL/OBJ/E57/CAD.
• Produce deviation maps and reports comparing scans to drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids or hand-clean meshes for modeling teams.
• Document capture procedure and keep records of equipment and chain of custody.
• Keep scanner, batteries, and calibration records organized.
• Coordinate access, permits, safety with site contacts; travel to regional hubs as assigned.
