Forged Fiber in Ramsey, MN is seeking a Fiber Tech II - Splicing Technician to install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cable for construction, operations, maintenance, and restoration projects. This on-site role emphasizes safety, documentation, and collaboration with construction crews and engineers.

You will read prints, perform splices, and use OTDRs and power meters to ensure high quality connections while supporting emergency restoration and routine maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• 2+ years of fiber splicing/telecom outside-plant experience.
• Proficiency with fusion splicer, OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifiers, and inspection scope.
• Ability to read construction prints, splice diagrams, and maps.
• Strong written and verbal communication; teamwork oriented.
• Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word) and field documentation.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and varied terrain.
• Lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Willingness to work overtime, nights, weekends, standby, and on-call.

Responsibilities

• Install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cable for construction projects.
• Troubleshoot and isolate fiber faults with OTDR, power meter, and related tools.
• Prepare, install, audit, and repair splice enclosures across aerial, buried, and manhole sites.
• Perform dark fiber, reel, and continuity testing; restore service and maintain route integrity.
• Coordinate with crews, contractors, and partners to meet schedules; provide field splicing reports.
• Read and interpret construction prints, splice diagrams, and permits to complete work accurately.
