Job summary

Forged Fiber is hiring a Fiber Tech II - Splicing Technician to install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cable across construction, maintenance, and restoration projects. The role requires reading construction prints, coordinating with crews, and maintaining documentation with safety at the forefront.

Typical duties include handling aerial and underground splices, utilizing OTDR and optical power meters, and ensuring route integrity while adhering to OSHA/NESC standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record; ability to drive company vehicles safely.
  • 2+ years of fiber splicing/telecom outside-plant or related experience (or equivalent training/experience).
  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools; proficiency with fusion splicer, OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifiers, and inspection scope.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction prints, splice diagrams, design maps, diagrams/schematics, permits or any other documents and/or work orders; strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with team members, contractors, and multiple agencies.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word) and ability to use electronic devices for field documentation and work orders.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and prioritize work effectively.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and varied terrain.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces with required safety practices.
  • Ability to climb and work at elevations exceeding 18 feet.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing/walking for extended periods and routinely lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, standby rotation, and accept call-outs as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Install, splice, test fiber optic cable for construction projects and related maintenance or restoration.
  • Troubleshoot and isolate fiber faults using OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifiers, and related tools; document results.
  • Prepare, install, audit, and repair splice cases/enclosures across aerial, buried, handholes, and manholes.
  • Perform dark fiber, reel, and continuity testing; complete repairs to restore service and maintain route integrity.
  • Place and test jumpers in communication cabinets and perform fiber panel/case audits.
  • Read and interpret construction prints, splice diagrams, and design maps to complete work accurately.
  • Coordinate with construction crews and partners to resolve outages and meet project schedules; provide field splicing reports as required.
  • Use company devices for work orders, diagnostics, and documentation.
  • Follow quality and safety requirements (OSHA, NESC) and company procedures.
