Job summary

Forged Fiber in Port Charlotte, FL is seeking a Fiber Tech II - Splicing Technician to install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cables across construction, operations, maintenance, and restoration projects.

You will use OTDRs, optical power meters, and other tools to diagnose faults, prepare splice cases, and perform aerial and underground work while adhering to OSHA and company safety standards. This role demands physical stamina and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid state driver’s license and driving record.
• 2+ years of fiber splicing/telecom outside-plant experience.
• Hands-on with fusion splicer, OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifiers, inspection scope.
• Read and interpret construction prints, splice diagrams, permits and orders.
• Strong written and verbal communication, teamwork.
• Basic computer skills and field documentation.

Responsibilities

• Install, splice, and test fiber optic cable for construction projects and restoration.
• Troubleshoot faults using OTDR, power meter, and documentation of results.
• Prepare, install, audit, and repair splice cases/enclosures in aerial or underground areas.
• Perform dark fiber tests, reel testing, and continuity checks; restore service.
• Place jumpers, test panels, and conduct audits of cables and enclosures.
• Read prints/diagrams and coordinate with crews to meet schedules.
• Follow OSHA and safety requirements; use company devices for work orders.
