Job summary

Ascot Group is seeking a Claims Counsel, Financial Institutions to join our Financial Lines Claims team. The Claims Counsel conducts investigations, analysis, evaluation and disposition of FI claims, and provides needed legal advice to partners and strategic initiatives.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of relevant legal or claims handling experience, preferably in FI claims, and a JD or equivalent. Travel for mediations, conferences, and trials may be required.

Qualifications

• JD or equivalent preferred; attorney with relevant background.
• Minimum 3 years of legal or claims handling experience in Financial Institutions.
• Willingness to travel for mediations, conferences, trials, and related activities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to negotiate terms within authority.

Responsibilities

• Manage a load of primary and excess FI claims.
• Analyze, investigate, and resolve FI claims with supervision.
• Prepare and present reports on loss development, exposure, and coverage issues.
• Collaborate with underwriting on significant claim exposures.
• Coordinate with brokers, insureds, and counsel to resolve claims.
• Draft coverage correspondence and appoint/manage counsel.
• Maintain comprehensive claims files and stay updated on FI trends.
