Job summary

Ascot Group seeks a Claims Counsel, Financial Institutions, to join our Financial Lines Claims team in New York. The role focuses on investigations, analysis, evaluation, and disposition of FI claims, including litigation, with a view to superior customer service and optimized results.

You will work with internal partners and external counsel, maintain licenses, and participate in strategic initiatives, while upholding The Ascot Way in collaboration, integrity, and accountability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree, with a J.D., preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant legal or claim handling experience, ideally FI.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience negotiating terms within authority limits.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of primary and excess FI claims.
• Analyze, investigate and resolve FI claims with moderate supervision.
• Prepare reports on loss development, exposure, reserves and strategies.
• Collaborate with underwriting on significant claim exposures.
• Draft coverage correspondence and manage counsel.
• Maintain comprehensive claims files and stay current on FI trends.
• Travel to mediations, conferences, trials, and depositions as needed.
