Job summary

Ascot Group is seeking a Claims Counsel, Financial Institutions, to join our Financial Lines Claims team. The role conducts investigations, analysis and disposition of FI claims, providing legal advice and supporting strategic initiatives. Travel for mediations, conferences, and trials is expected.

The candidate will require a JD or related degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience, strong communication, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree, with a J.D., preferred, or related field of study.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in legal or claim handling, ideally FI claims.

Responsibilities

• Manage a case load of primary and excess FI claims.
• Analyze, investigate and resolve FI claims of varying levels of severity with moderate supervision.
• Prepare and present reports reflecting loss development, exposure, reserve adjustments, and strategies.
• Collaborate with underwriting on significant claim exposures.
• Work with brokers, insureds, and counsel to resolve claims.
• Draft coverage correspondence and manage counsel.
• Maintain comprehensive claims files.
• Monitor FI trends and inform colleagues on law impacting Ascot decisions.
• Obtain and maintain adjusters’ licenses.
• Attend mediations, conferences, trials, and depositions; assist marketing.
