Job summary

Alternative Services Connecticut, Inc. seeks a Residential Instructor in Connecticut to supervise consumers daily and ensure safety and program operations.

You will implement agency policies, provide a safe, healthy living environment, and document progress and incidents to support optimal care. The role requires strong communication, adherence to procedures, and active participation in staff meetings and trainings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years’ experience with individuals with developmental disabilities; substitution allowed with education.
• Valid driver’s license; insured. Travel possible in daily work.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
• Must obtain certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT and DDS Medication Administration.
• Lift up to 75 pounds; capable of physical intervention when needed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor consumer behavior and manage programs; document on forms.
• Document shift activities and incidents in logs and Therap system.
• Provide programmatic and statistical reports as required.
• Maintain safety, appearance and cleanliness of home; conduct inspections and minor repairs.
• Maintain professional attitude with coworkers and external parties.
• Follow agency policies, procedures, and licensing rules; ensure DDS contract compliance.
• Immediately report problems or unusual occurrences; file incident reports.
• Implement and adhere to all policies and program commitments.
• Act as advocate and role model for consumers, treating them with respect and dignity.
• Assist with hygiene for consumers and organize activities for shifts.
• Distribute medications according to each consumer's schedule and guidelines.
• Provide activities for consumers and supervise interactions with others.
• Counsel or reinforce to address progress, problems, interests.
• Supervise and transport residents to community activities as needed.
• Know and follow emergency procedures for fires, outages, and other incidents.
• Assist guardians in normalization and person-centered planning.
• Report rights violations to Executive Director; participate in investigations.
• Assist with shopping, meal prep, setup and cleanup when on duty.
• Attend training sessions; provide training as required; participate in staff meetings.
• Have thorough working knowledge of Agency policies.
• Other duties as assigned by Residential Manager or upper management.
• Follow Behavior Support Plan and document.
