Job summary

Alternative Services Connecticut, Inc. is seeking a Residential Instructor to supervise and support consumers daily, ensuring safe, healthy environments and adherence to agency policies.

You will document progress, manage care activities, and provide engaging programs that promote dignity and independence. You will maintain logs, coordinate with staff, report incidents, and assist with transportation and safety procedures, including emergency responses and staff trainings.

Qualifications

• Minimum possession of a High School Diploma or a G.E.D.
• Minimum two years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or that are dually diagnosed. Experience requirement may be substituted with education on a year for year basis.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured; travel may be required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to obtain certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT and DDS State Medication Administration.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and physically intervene when required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor consumer behavior and implement programs; document on forms.
• Document shift activities and incidents in logs and Therap.
• Provide programmatic and statistical reports as required.
• Maintain safety, appearance and cleanliness of home; conduct inspections and minor repairs.
• Act as an advocate and role model; treat individuals with respect and dignity.
• Follow agency policies, procedures, and licensing regulations; report incidents promptly.
• Assist in emergency procedures and incident reporting; complete staff communications.
• Distribute medications per schedules and guidelines.
• Provide activities or programs for consumers during each shift.
• Supervise and transport residents to activities and events.
• Follow emergency home procedures for fires, outages, or incidents.
• Train and support staff; participate in meetings and trainings.
