Job summary

Alternative Services Connecticut, Inc. is seeking a Residential Instructor to supervise consumers daily and ensure safety and welfare in the home.

You will implement agency policies, document progress, and provide engaging activities while coordinating with management and outside agencies. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 2 years of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT, and medication administration.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years experience with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnosis; education may substitute year-for-year.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured; travel may be required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, PMT and DDS State Medication Administration certifications.
• Able to lift up to 75 pounds and physically intervene as needed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor consumer behavior and implement programs; document on forms.
• Document shift activities and incidents in logs and Therap system.
• Provide programmatic and statistical reports as required.
• Maintain safety, cleanliness and sanitation of home and equipment; report major issues.
• Maintain professional conduct with colleagues and agencies.
• Follow agency policies, procedures, and licensing regulations; assist in policy adherence.
• Alert personnel to problems and complete incident reports promptly.
• Implement and adhere to all policies and commitments for consumers per DDS and agency.
• Participate in staff meetings and share duties as required.
• Advise and model respectful, person-centered care for consumers.
• Assist with hygiene needs for consumers.
• Document all activities related to welfare of home or consumers in prescribed forms.
• Distribute medications according to schedules and guidelines.
• Provide activities for consumers during each shift and supervise interactions with home/group homes.
• Offer counseling or reinforcement to address progress and concerns.
• Assist in supervising and safely transporting residents to activities and programs.
• Know and follow emergency procedures for various incidents.
• Support normalization and person-centered planning with caregivers.
• Report rights violations to Executive Director and participate in investigations.
• Assist with shopping, meal prep, setup and cleanup when on duty.
• Attend trainings and contribute to staff development.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of agency policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned by Residential Manager or upper management.
• Follow behavior support plan and document actions.
