Job summary

Alternative Services Connecticut, Inc. seeks a Residential Instructor to supervise consumers daily, implement behavior programs, and ensure safety and welfare within the home environment.

The role requires adherence to agency and DDS policies, professional conduct, and accurate documentation. Candidates should meet education and certification requirements and be prepared to assist with transportation, hygiene, and activities across shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least two years' experience with developmentally disabled individuals; education may substitute.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• CPR, First Aid, PMT and DDS Medication Administration certifications required.
• Able to lift up to 75 pounds and physically intervene when needed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor consumer behavior and implement behavior management programs; document all on forms.
• Document shift activities and incidents in the log and on consumers in Therap.
• Provide programmatic and statistical reports as required.
• Maintain safety, cleanliness of home; conduct sanitation inspections and minor repairs.
• Maintain professional attitude with staff, management, and outside agencies.
• Know consumer location at all times; follow agency policies and DDS contracts.
• Alert personnel to problems; complete incident reports timely and accurately.
• Implement and adhere to all policies and program commitments to consumers.
• Attend staff meetings and report duties; act as advocate and role model.
• Assist with hygiene needs of consumers and document accordingly.
• Document all activity related to welfare of home/consumers including seizures and meds.
• Distribute medications per schedule and policy guidelines.
• Provide activities for consumers during each shift; supervise and interact with consumers.
• Counsel or reinforce to address progress, problems, and interests.
• Assist in supervising and transporting residents to activities and programs.
• Know and follow emergency procedures for fires, outages, and incidents.
• Support normalization/person-centered planning with guardians and others.
• Report rights violations to Executive Director and assist in investigations.
• Assist in shopping, meal prep, setup and cleanup when on duty.
• Attend training; provide training for Agency personnel; participate in meetings.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of Agency policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Residential Manager or upper management.
