Job summary

GBMC HealthCare is seeking a Phlebotomy Lab Assistant to provide phlebotomy and accessioning services. The role includes collecting specimens, documenting results, and supporting training of staff and students.

The position requires at least 6 months of phlebotomy and accessioning experience, High School education, and strong communication skills. Schedule includes Monday–Friday evenings with alternating weekend rotations and on-call holidays.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 6 months phlebotomy experience and 6 months accessioning experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and phlebotomy techniques.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with computers and typing.

Responsibilities

• Extracts blood from patients and performs phlebotomy procedures.
• Accurately document all phlebotomy rounds and outpatient callbacks.
• Enter accurate patient demographics, orders, and specimen receipt in Meditech.
• Prepare and process specimens for testing (labeling, measuring, aliquoting, centrifuging).
• Maintain donor room QC and universal precautions.
• Assist in training coworkers, students, and staff.
• Pack, transport, and ensure timely delivery of specimens to the lab.
