Job summary

GBMC HealthCare is seeking a Phlebotomy Lab Assistant to perform phlebotomy and accessioning duties under direct supervision. The schedule is 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM with every other weekend rotation, holidays, and on-call requirements.

Qualifications include a High School diploma and at least 6 months of phlebotomy and accessioning experience, plus strong communication and computer skills. Duties cover specimen collection, labeling, processing, and reporting in a busy hospital laboratory.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months phlebotomy experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to type and use a computer.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Extracts blood from patients using aseptic venipuncture techniques.
• Documents all phlebotomy rounds accurately.
• Documentation of outpatients called back including physician offices.
• Enters accurate patient demographics, orders and verifies specimen receipt.
• Prepares and processes specimens for testing (labeling, measuring, aliquoting, centrifuging).
• Maintains donor room QC and universal precautions.
• Transports specimens to appropriate lab areas.
