Job summary

GBMC HealthCare in Baltimore, MD seeks a Phlebotomy Lab Assistant under direct supervision to collect and process specimens, accession data, and provide laboratory information and reports to customers. The role also assists in training co-workers, students, and other hospital staff.

The schedule is 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM with every other weekend, holidays, and on-call requirements. Requires at least 6 months of phlebotomy and accessioning experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 6 months phlebotomy and related accessioning experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and phlebotomy techniques.
• Good oral and written communication, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Extracts blood from patients and performs phlebotomy procedures per aseptic venipuncture technique.
• Enters accurate patient demographic and test order information into the system.
• Prepares and processes specimens for testing, labeling, centrifuging and dispatch.
• Document all phlebotomy rounds and assist with donor/other staff training.
• Ensure patient safety and follow universal precautions; maintain supplies.
