Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Lab Support Tech I to greet patients, perform phlebotomy, and support specimen handling in a fast-paced lab environment.

You will collect blood samples, label and process specimens, and assist with computer-based test ordering while maintaining accuracy and patient care quality. Evening shifts, holidays, and weekend coverage are part of a rotating schedule.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Phlebotomy training preferred
• ASCP certification or eligibility preferred
• Phlebotomy experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples using venipuncture across all ages.
• Label and prioritize specimens (e.g., STAT, STROKE, CSF) accurately.
• Restock supplies and keep drawing station organized.
• Register courier-delivered specimens efficiently.
• Order tests using hospital information systems and test dictionaries.
• Answer and transfer calls courteously and ensure coverage at all times.
• Perform capillary collection and PKU collections proficiently.
