Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Massachusetts is seeking a phlebotomist to join our team. You will collect blood samples, follow department protocols, and communicate any difficulties to supervisors while maintaining professional conduct.

Responsibilities include specimen receiving, labeling, transporting, registering courier specimens, and supporting computer test ordering. The role supports ER needs, PPE compliance, and inventory. Schedule includes evening shifts with 24 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Collects blood samples using venipuncture across all ages.
• Follows departmental protocols for sample collection.
• Communicates difficulties to supervisors and maintains professional conduct.

Responsibilities

• Receives specimens in the computer system and labels them accurately.
• Transports specimens promptly and redistributes per protocol.
• Registers courier-delivered specimens efficiently and troubleshoots printer issues.
• Orders tests using hospital information systems and communicates with departments when needed.
• Answers and transfers calls courteously and ensures coverage for incoming calls.
• Performs heel sticks and PKU collections.
• Restocks supplies and reports low inventory.
• Maintains PPE compliance and provides shift reports.
• Supports ER operations and patient draws as needed.
