Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Phlebotomy training (preferred).
• ASCP certification or eligibility (preferred).
• Phlebotomy experience (preferred).
• Computer and keyboard proficiency.
• Fluent English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Specimen Collection: Collect blood samples via venipuncture across age groups; follow protocols; communicate difficulties to supervisors.
• Specimen Receiving and Distribution: Receive specimens in the computer system; label, prioritize (STAT, STROKE, CSF); transport per protocol.
• Work Area Organization: Maintain clean, organized drawing station; restock supplies; keep orders accessible.
• Specimen Registration: Register courier-delivered specimens; troubleshoot printer issues.
• Computer and Test Ordering Support: Use hospital information systems; order tests accurately; coordinate with departments.
• Telephone Support: Answer and transfer calls; ensure coverage at all times.
• Capillary Collection: Perform heel sticks and PKU collections; ensure sample quality.
• Resource Utilization: Adapt to workflow changes; cover home draws; provide feedback to supervisors.
• General Lab Duties: Restock supplies; use PPE; report inventory; maintain proficiency.
• Emergency Room Support: Operate in Responder 5; maintain PPE and pager readiness; stock supplies.
• Age-Specific Competency: Apply age-appropriate communication and care.
