Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Lab Support Tech I to greet patients, perform phlebotomy, and support specimen collection and processing in a fast-paced hospital lab.

The role includes order entry, specimen labeling, and delivering timely patient draws while ensuring PPE compliance and accurate documentation. Evening shifts (2:30pm-11pm) and weekend rotation are required; fluency in English and basic computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Phlebotomy training preferred; ASCP certification or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood samples using venipuncture techniques across age groups.
• Receives specimens in the computer system and labels/prioritizes them (STAT, STROKE, CSF).
• Maintains clean drawing station, restocks supplies, and keeps patient orders organized.
• Registers courier-delivered specimens accurately and troubleshoots printer issues.
• Orders tests accurately using hospital information systems and test dictionaries.
• Answers and transfers calls courteously and ensures coverage for incoming calls.
• Performs heel sticks and PKU collections with proper volume and quality.
• Adapts to workflow changes, provides coverage for home draws and drawing stations.
