Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Lab Support Tech I for phlebotomy and specimen processing in a busy hospital setting. You will greet patients, perform blood draws, and handle specimen labeling and dispatch with attention to accuracy and timeliness.

The role requires familiarity with hospital information systems, ability to follow protocols, and flexibility to cover shifts including mornings and weekends.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• Phlebotomy training.
• ASCP certification or eligibility.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Computer and keyboard proficiency.
• Fluent English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood samples using venipuncture across all age groups.
• Follows departmental protocols for sample collection.
• Registers all courier-delivered specimens accurately and efficiently.
• Labels and prioritizes specimens (e.g., STAT, STROKE, CSF) correctly.
• Transports specimens promptly and redistributes them per protocol.
• Demonstrates mastery of hospital information systems and orders tests accurately.
• Answers and transfers calls courteously; ensures coverage.
• Performs heel sticks and PKU collections.
• Adapts to workflow changes and staffing needs.
