Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join our team for full-time evening shifts. You will support patient scheduling, verification, and registration processes in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• 2–3 years of customer service or medical office experience.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer data-entry/typing (40 wpm).
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to multi-task with strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Consistently practices Patients First philosophy and adheres to high standards of customer service.
• Responds to questions and concerns.
• Directs issues to Team Lead or Operations Coordinator as needed.
• Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
• Provides exceptional customer service to patients and creates a positive first impression.
• Escalates issues to management when necessary.
• Collects patient demographic information accurately.
• Coordinates with multiple departments to schedule and direct patients within NMHC systems.
• Schedules appointments and communicates options if scheduling challenges arise.
• Performs medical necessity checks and explains options to patients when appointments fail.
• Informs patients of issues with securing their financial account.
• Completes out-of-pocket estimations as requested.
• Provides training and education as needed.
