Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee is seeking a Community Technician to maintain a safe, supportive residential environment across shifts. This frontline role involves engaging residents in trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and crisis response, with emphasis on calm, professional conduct during challenging moments.

No prior shelter experience is required; candidates should be able to obtain required certifications and participate in structured training, with opportunities for advancement and ongoing

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication skills and calm under pressure.
  • Willingness to obtain required certifications.
  • No prior shelter experience required; strong judgment and empathy are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
  • Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
  • Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
  • Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
  • Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
  • Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
  • Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
  • Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
