Job summary

Irby Construction Company is seeking an Estimator I - BESS to support cost estimates and proposals for large-scale Battery Energy Storage System projects. The position develops foundational estimating skills in electrical and EPC disciplines while learning to interpret design documents and model costs.

This entry-level role involves working under supervision to prepare preliminary estimates, review drawings, perform material take-offs, and assist with bid documentation and cost forecasting

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong interest in electrical systems, renewable energy, and data infrastructure projects.
• Basic understanding of estimating principles, cost modeling, and project documentation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, and general computer literacy.
• Detail-oriented and analytical with strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing preliminary cost estimates for BESS and Data Center projects under supervision.
• Review proposal documents, drawings, single-line diagrams, and electrical one-lines to identify project requirements.
• Support material take-offs, vendor quote requests, and subcontractor scope development.
• Maintain records of estimates, design updates, and supporting documentation.
• Participate in pre-bid site visits and virtual meetings to assess project conditions.
• Assist with identifying risks, schedule constraints, and constructability factors specific to BESS and mission-critical projects.
• Learn to read and analyze KMZ files, BOMs, submittals, and engineering specifications.
• Support preparation of RFP responses and bid documentation.
• Participate in project cost forecasting and cash flow exercises.
