VEG is hiring Veterinary Nursing Shift Leads in the United States. You will own the rhythm and flow of each shift, ensuring top-tier patient care and empowering VEGgies to thrive. You lead with heart, hustle, and a people-centric approach, guiding a fast-paced team in a 24/7 emergency setting. Nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.

The role emphasizes mentorship, floor coaching, and staying adaptable to hospital needs while maintaining a supportive, collaborative culture.

Qualifications

• Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) or enrolled in VEG Credentialing Support Program.
• 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician or assistant role; emergency or specialty medicine preferred.
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics.
• Confidence in navigating floor operations while guiding others with empathy.
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Flexibility to step in wherever needed.
• Leadership instincts and ownership mindset.
• Basic computer skills, practice management software and EMR experience.
• Excellent communicator when collaborating with pet parents and your team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and lift up to 25 kg solo; up to 40 kg with assistance.
• Willingness to work in a noisy environment with odors.
• Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with diverse personalities.

Responsibilities

• Keep a clear pulse on patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs.
• Manage daily workflow and pivot when the unexpected hits.
• Ensure shift roles are assigned and adapted with clarity and care.
• Jump in on the floor when help is needed—no task is too small.
• Coordinate breaks, resolve conflicts, and model calm under pressure.
• Lead shift transitions, team huddles, and end-of-day wrap-ups.
• Communicate clearly, direct questions appropriately, elevate key issues.
• Turn downtime into learning time and grow as a team.
• Flag incidents with transparency and growth mindset.
• Work with hospital leadership on coverage, call-outs, and ongoing coaching.
