Job summary

VEG is expanding its veterinary emergency team in Florida and seeks a Veterinary Nursing Shift Lead who can thrive in our fast-paced, open-concept hospitals. You will own the rhythm and flow of each shift, ensuring top-tier care for patients and support for every VEGgie.

You’ll lead with heart, coach teammates, and collaborate with hospital leadership on coverage and ongoing coaching. This role offers growth, mentorship, and patient-centered excellence in a dynamic ER environment.

Qualifications

• CVT/RVT/LVMT credential or enrollment in VEG Credentialing Support Program.
• 1+ year of experience as veterinary technician or assistant; emergency or specialty experience preferred.
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics.
• Ability to lead on floor with empathy and clear communication.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays; ability to stand and lift up to 40 kg.

Responsibilities

• Maintain pulse on patient status and team workload.
• Coordinate shifts, coverage, and break schedules.
• Direct floor operations during emergencies with calm under pressure.
• Lead huddles, rounds, and end-of-day wrap-ups.
• Mentor teammates and provide on-floor coaching.
• Communicate clearly with pet parents and staff.
• Escalate incidents and work with leadership on coverage.
• Adapt roles as needed to keep care continuous.
• Foster a learning-focused, supportive environment.
