Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group is seeking a Veterinary Nursing Shift Lead to coordinate shifts, ensure top-tier patient care, and support VEGgies in a fast-paced emergency environment. You’ll guide floor operations, coach teammates, and maintain smooth patient flow with a focus on safety and collaboration.

Ideal candidates are CVT/RVT/LVMT credentialed or enrolled in VEG’s credentialing program, with 1+ year of tech/assistant experience, and a passion for growth in veterinary emergency medicine.

Qualifications

• CVT/RVT/LVMT credential preferred or VEG Credentialing Support Program enrollment.
• 1+ year experience in veterinary technician or assistant role; emergency or specialty medicine preferred.
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics.
• Leadership instincts with ownership mindset and desire to grow professionally.

Responsibilities

• Keep pulse on patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs.
• Manage daily workflow and adapt when the unexpected happens.
• Ensure shift roles are assigned and clear.
• Assist on floor when needed, no task too small.
• Coordinate breaks, resolve conflicts, and model calm under pressure.
• Lead shift transitions, team huddles, and end-of-day wrap-ups.
• Communicate clearly and elevate key issues.
• Turn downtime into learning time when possible.
• Flag incidents with transparency and growth mindset.
• Collaborate with hospital leadership on coverage and coaching.
