Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is seeking a Nursing Shift Lead to coordinate fast-paced shifts in our emergency veterinary environment. You’ll own the rhythm, run team huddles, ensure top-tier patient care, and empower VEGgies to deliver smooth operations.

You’ll guide flow, coach team members, and handle floor operations with empathy, strong communication, and calm under pressure, while partnering with hospital leadership on coverage and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Credentialed veterinary technician with emergency/specialty experience preferred.
• Minimum 1 year in a veterinary technician/assistant role.
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics.
• Lead with empathy and strong communication on the floor.
• Excellent conflict resolution and people skills.
• Ownership mindset and accountability for outcomes.
• Comfort with computer systems and EMR software.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs.
• Manage daily workflow and pivot when the unexpected happens.
• Assign and adapt shift roles with clarity and care.
• Step in on the floor to assist; no task is too small.
• Coordinate breaks and resolve conflicts calmly.
• Lead shift transitions, huddles, and end-of-day wrap-ups.
• Communicate clearly and elevate key issues promptly.
• Turn downtime into learning moments or a breath break.
• Flag incidents with transparency and a growth mindset.
• Collaborate with leadership on coverage and coaching.
