Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Massachusetts is seeking a Unit Secretary to support patient flow in the Emergency Department. This non-exempt, full-time role offers an evening shift and a signing-bonus consideration process during interview.

The position performs a variety of clerical, patient-record, and data-entry tasks to help the clinical team coordinate admissions, tests, and discharges while maintaining logs and preparing materials for new patients.

Qualifications

• Ability to handle multiple priorities and effective communication.
• 3 to 12 months experience.
• Equivalent to high school plus additional specialized training.

Responsibilities

• Greets and directs patients, families, and visitors; relays information to the department.
• Answer calls promptly; contact physicians or staff as appropriate.
• Maintain logs, records, and patient charts; share information efficiently.
• Process information for admissions, radiology, lab, dietary, housekeeping.
• Enter and track data for admissions, trainings, and discharges.
• Arrange tests and procedures including lab and radiology as ordered.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and prepare requisitions.
• Prepare for admissions and discharges; assemble charts and census lists.
• Perform routine clerical and computerized duties; sort and relay messages.
• Arrange patient transport as ordered by the clinical team.
• Keep waiting areas stocked with information; participate in training.
