Job summary

gbmc is seeking an experienced Registration Specialist for the Emergency Department. You will interview and register patients with urgent needs, verify insurance, and collect co-pays while maintaining patient privacy and accuracy across multiple hospital systems.

The role requires strong multitasking, excellent customer service, and the ability to work in a high-stress, team-based setting with rotating staff. Experience in ED and terminology training are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• CHAA preferred.
• 1-2 years related experience preferred; 6 months to 1 year in an Emergency Department preferred; Medical Terminology class preferred.

Responsibilities

• Completes Arrival and Registration for patients with life-threatening illness or injury, ED petitions, sexual assault, psych eval, and substance abuse.
• Follows standard precautions to prevent exposure to blood and body fluids.
• Registers patients at bedside and ensures complete information from patient, family or facility.
• Manages extensive insurance knowledge for accurate entry for new/out-of-state patients and liability cases.
• Documents origin, sending facility and referral source while maintaining patient records compliance.
• Registers after-hours Radiology patients and verifies demographics and insurance signatures.
• Explains hospital rates and policies; collaborates with clinical staff across departments to resolve questions.
• Inputs patient data into systems including Epic, Outlook and Excel; obtains signatures and IDs; escorts patients as needed.
