Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as student success coaches and mentors, focusing on coaching and mentoring elementary, middle and/or high school students to improve academic outcomes and school engagement.

Training is provided at the start of the year, and members work closely with teachers and school staff to implement individualized progress plans and contribute to whole-class instruction and student supports.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; 2–4 weeks of training at start of year provided.
• Assist teachers and school staff with in-class instruction and student progress.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 or in small groups.
• Develop literacy and math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space in collaboration with teachers.
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to monitor student progress.
• Support after-school programs and extended day activities.
