Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as student success coaches and mentors in elementary, middle, and high schools. The role focuses on helping students achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors through coached instruction and support.

You will participate in a training program at the start of the year and work alongside partner teachers and school staff to implement in-class supports and whole-school initiatives that enhance student outcomes.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; 2–4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year.
• Willingness to work with teachers and school staff
• Ability to work 1:1 and in small groups

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Support literacy and math skills with varied activities.
• Create and implement behavior management strategies for students.
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily routines, practice, reflection, and repetition.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, analyze, and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system.
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Assist with whole-school initiatives to increase student and family engagement.
