Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary to high school levels, helping improve academic success, attendance and behavior. You will plan progress, support teachers, and contribute to classroom activities with a structured training program at the start of the year.

The role emphasizes coaching, collaboration with staff, and participating in City Year’s student data system for ongoing progress tracking and program evaluation.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms.
• Agree to a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.

Responsibilities

• Coaching and mentoring 1:1 and small groups of students.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Develop interpersonal skills through learning, practice, reflection and repetition.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, record, analyze and monitor student progress.
