Job summary

Atlanta Gas Light is seeking an entry-level general technician to assist with installing, maintaining and repairing gas mains and service lines. The role supports field operations, performs meter reads and ERT installations, and helps with leak detection and safety tasks in above and below ground systems.

The position is bargaining unit under IBEW Local 1997, with progression per the collective bargaining agreement. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Mechanical aptitude expected.
  • Basic knowledge and use of hand tools and equipment.
  • Ability to pass basic skills and knowledge assessments.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair and maintain gas mains and service lines.
  • Operate basic equipment and tools; manage traffic control.
  • Perform meter reads, ERT installations and ERT programming.
  • Observe safety and regulatory guidelines to ensure compliance.
  • Record data in Mobile Data Terminal and identify abnormal conditions.
  • Assist in connecting/disconnecting gas service and meter operations.
  • Assist in investigating high bill complaints and special readings.
  • Conduct regular meter inspections and maintenance of gas systems.
