Job summary

Atlanta Gas Light is seeking an entry-level general technician to join our below-ground crew. The role supports installation, maintenance, and repair of gas mains and service lines, including meter reading and basic leak checks. Candidates should have basic hand-tool proficiency and a valid driver’s license.

The position is safety-sensitive and follows the terms of the applicable bargaining agreement. Training and progression opportunities are provided within the IBEW Local 1997 framework.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Mechanical aptitude required.
  • Basic knowledge and use of hand tools and equipment.
  • Ability to pass basic skills and knowledge assessments.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate basic equipment and tools as part of the distribution crew.
  • Perform traffic control and landscaping/general maintenance.
  • Dig, shore, repair leaks, test and wrap pipes; record pressure with devices.
  • Use various hand tools and equipment to support distribution tasks.
  • Ensure truck is stocked with equipment and maintained in orderly condition.
  • Complete meter reads, ERT installations and ERT programming as part of AMR duties.
  • Assist in connecting/disconnecting gas service and turning meters on/off.
  • Respond to customer questions and assist with inquiries as needed.
  • Follow safety and regulatory guidelines and document via Mobile Data Terminal.
