Job summary

Entry level position in Atlanta Gas Light's field operations supporting deactivation of service, meter readings, corrosion inspections, and maintenance activities. Works with a crew to install, maintain, and repair gas mains and service lines, operating basic equipment and performing leak investigations.

Requires high school diploma or GED, mechanical aptitude, and valid driver's license. The role includes an automatic progression under the collective bargaining agreement with IBEW Local 1997.

Qualifications

• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to use good judgment in hazardous environments.
• MS Office and computer skills – basic proficiency.
• Customer service orientation.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate basic equipment and tools.
• Strong interpersonal skills for team and customer interactions.
• Knowledge of the assigned geographic area.
• Ability to smell odorant used to detect gas leaks.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently works a route to complete customer and compliance orders in a timely manner.
• Observes safety requirements and regulatory guidelines to ensure compliance.
• Captures documentation in the Mobile Data Terminal and recognizes abnormal operating conditions.
• Assists in connecting and disconnecting gas service and turning meters on/off.
• Performs meter reading validation and investigations of high bill complaints.
• Maintains and inspects above/below ground gas systems and performs routine tasks.
• Responds to customer questions and provides answers or referrals.
• Supports distribution activities for installation, repair, and maintenance of the system.
