Job summary

Atlanta Gas Light is seeking an entry level general technician below ground to join a crew installing, maintaining, and repairing gas mains and service lines. Responsibilities include operating basic equipment, performing leak checks, reading meters, and assisting with field operations under safety guidelines.

This bargaining unit position (IBEW Local 1997) offers on-the-job training, opportunity for progression, and the chance to contribute to reliable gas service in the Atlanta area.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Mechanical aptitude and basic tool use required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Pass basic skills assessments.
• MS Office and computer skills basic proficiency.
• Good written and oral communication.
• Ability to work safely in hazardous and outdoor environments.
• Knowledge of local territory beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Assists distribution crew with installation, repair and maintenance of the distribution system.
• Operates basic equipment and tools; performs traffic control and landscaping tasks.
• Digging, shoring, repairing leaks, testing and wrapping pipes; pressure recording devices.
• Uses various hand tools while performing crew activities and ensures truck is stocked.
• Completes customer and compliance orders promptly and follows safety rules.
• Captures documentation in Mobile Data Terminal and notes abnormal conditions.
• Assists in connecting/disconnecting gas service and meter operations.
• Performs meter reading, ERT installations and programming as part of AMR duties.
• Responds to questions from customers and provides referrals when needed.
