Job summary

VEG is seeking Veterinary Nursing Shift Leads to supervise each shift, ensuring top-tier patient care and proper resources for every VEGgie. You’ll guide huddles, coach staff, and maintain smooth floor operations in a fast-paced ER environment.

Ideal candidates have CVT/RVT/LVT/LVMT credentials or are in VEG’s credentialing path, with 1+ year in veterinary tech roles, especially ER or specialty medicine. Expect nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• CVT/RVT/LVT/LVMT credential or enrollment in VEG Credentialing Support Program preferred
• 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician or assistant role; emergency or specialty medicine experience preferred
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics
• Confident navigating floor operations while guiding others with empathy
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
• Flexibility to step in wherever needed
• Leadership instincts and ownership mindset
• Basic computer skills and proficiency with practice management software/EMR
• Excellent communication with pet parents and team
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg (up to 40 kg with assistance)
• Comfortable working in a noisy environment with strong odors
• Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse team environment

Responsibilities

• Keep a clear pulse on patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs
• Manage daily workflow and adapt when unexpected events occur
• Ensure shift roles are assigned and clearly communicated
• Step in on the floor to assist as needed
• Coordinate breaks, resolve conflicts, and model calmer leadership
• Lead shift transitions, huddles, and end-of-day wrap-ups
• Communicate clearly and elevate key issues as needed
• Turn downtime into learning opportunities for the team
• Flag notable incidents with transparency and growth mindset
• Collaborate with hospital leadership on coverage and coaching
