Job summary

VEG is seeking a Veterinary Nursing Shift Lead in the United States (Alexandria, VA) to guide shift flow and ensure top-tier care for patients and VEGgies. You will coach the team, manage daily operations, and step in on the floor as needed, upholding our values of empathy, ownership, and continuous learning.

Ideal candidates hold a credentialed veterinary technician credential and have 1+ years of emergency or specialty experience, with strong communication and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• CVT or enrolled in VEG Credentialing Support Program preferred.
• 1+ years of experience as a veterinary technician or assistant; emergency or specialty care experience preferred.
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics.
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Must be able to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 kg; comfortable in a noisy, odor-rich environment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs.
• Manage daily workflow and pivot during emergencies.
• Assign shift roles with clarity and care; adapt as needed.
• Floor presence: assist where needed and coach others.
• Coordinate breaks, resolve conflicts, and model calm under pressure.
• Lead shift transitions, team huddles, and wrap-ups.
• Communicate clearly and escalate key issues when needed.
