Job summary

VEG for Pets is seeking Veterinary Nursing Shift Leads to maintain smooth ER operations and support VEGgies in providing top-tier care. You’ll manage shift rhythm, coaching, and coverage while upholding a compassionate environment for patients and staff.

Qualified candidates are credentialed veterinary technicians with at least 1 year in emergency or specialty settings, strong communication, empathy, and leadership. Night/weekend/holiday rotations are required in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Credentialed Veterinary Technician required or enrolled in VEG Credentialing Support Program
• 1+ years in veterinary technician or assistant role; emergency or specialty preferred
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics
• Confident in guiding others with empathy while managing floor operations
• Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills
• Willingness to step in wherever needed and show leadership
• Basic computer skills and experience with practice management software/EMR
• Strong collaboration with pet parents and teammates

Responsibilities

• Keep pulse on patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs
• Manage daily workflow and pivot during unexpected events
• Assign and adapt shift roles with clarity and care
• Lead on-floor coaching and cover breaks as needed
• Coordinate breaks and resolve conflicts calmly
• Lead shift transitions, huddles, and end-of-day wrap-ups
• Communicate clearly and elevate key issues to leadership
• Turn downtime into learning time for the team
• Flag incidents with transparency and growth mindset
• Collaborate with hospital leadership on coverage and coaching
