Job summary

VEG is seeking a Veterinary nursing Shift Lead to coordinate and support shift operations, ensuring top-tier care for patients and a supportive environment for VEGgies. You’ll guide huddles, reviews, and floor coaching to keep the team aligned with hospital goals.

Ideal candidates bring 1+ year of veterinary tech experience, strong teamwork, and a proactive ownership mindset. This full-time role supports nights, weekends, and holidays in a fast-paced ER setting.

Qualifications

• Credentialed veterinary technician or enrolled in VEG Credentialing Support Program.
• 1+ years of experience in veterinary technician or assistant role; emergency or specialty medicine preferred.
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics.
• Ability to lead with empathy and manage floor operations.
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Able to lift up to 25 kg; tolerate noisy environment.

Responsibilities

• Keep pulse on patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs.
• Manage daily workflow and pivot when the unexpected hits.
• Ensure shift roles are assigned and adapted as needed.
• Lead floor presence and on-the-floor coaching.
• Coordinate breaks and conflict resolution.
• Lead shift transitions and end-of-day wrap-ups.
• Communicate clearly and elevate key issues.
• Support learning time during downtime.
• Flag incidents for transparency and growth.
• Work with hospital leadership on coverage and coaching.
