Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is seeking a part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support the team in triage, treatments, and diagnostics. You will assist veterinarians and credentialed technicians, manage IV fluids and anesthesia support, and help ensure high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
  • 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
  • Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software/EMR.
  • Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
  • Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long hours and lift up to 25 kg
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Be the first warm welcome and steady support, triaging incoming patients.
  • Assist with treatments, nursing care, diagnostics, bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, O2 support.
  • Work with credentialed techs and veterinarians for anesthesia setup and monitoring.
  • Set up/manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, meds.
  • Support during all care moments, from exam room to treatment area.
  • Join rounds and maintain continuity of care.
  • Learn CPR and RECOVER Certified Rescuer training (provided).
  • Grow into advanced responsibilities through guided training
