Job summary

VEG is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced ER team. You will support clinicians, comfort pet parents, and learn the ropes in real-time from day one.

You'll triage patients, assist with treatments and diagnostics, and participate in anesthesia setups under supervision. This role offers growth toward advanced responsibilities with training pathways and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Willing to work nights, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
• Able to stand for long hours, lift up to 25 kg alone, and assist up to 40 kg.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and provide steady support, triaging patients toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging.
• Work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Assist during outpatient or inpatient care: exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certified Rescuer training (provided).
• Grow into more advanced responsibilities through guided training pathways.
