Job summary

VEG ER for Pets is seeking a part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support the team, comfort pet parents, and learn hands-on from day one. You’ll be involved in triage, treatments, and the full spectrum of emergency care, from triage to recovery.

You will work with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians, gaining exposure to anesthesia, imaging, and critical care while growing your career in a fast-paced, pet-centered environment. Night/weekend shifts are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with practice management software and EMR.
• Excellent communicator when collaborating with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg (40 kg with assistance).
• Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong odors.
• Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome; triage incoming patients and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, oxygen support).
• Work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation cases.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Participate in care rounds and maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced roles such as anesthesia support, ultrasound, catheterization with training.
