Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is hiring an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support the team from day one. You will assist with triage, treatments, and nursing care, while learning anesthesia and diagnostic support in a fast-paced ER environment.

This role emphasizes growth paths toward credentialed technician status or further clinical responsibilities. Strong communication and teamwork are essential, with night/weekend availability and a high-energy hospital culture.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
  • 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
  • Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR.

Responsibilities

  • Be the first warm welcome and a steady support, triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward care.
  • Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging and catheter placement.
  • Work alongside credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians for anesthesia and sedation.
  • Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
  • Assist during every moment of care: outpatient or inpatient, exam room to treatment area.
  • Join patient rounds and stay close to the clinical picture to ensure continuity of care.
  • Learn CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
  • Grow into more advanced responsibilities, such as anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization.
