Job summary

HomeFirst is seeking a Resident Advocate for the Emergency Interim Housing site in San Jose. You will support participants’ daily needs, facilitate housing plans, and coordinate on-site services to ensure safety and progress toward housing stability.

Responsibilities include HMIS documentation, intake assessments, and leading weekly workshops while maintaining a trauma-informed, client-centered approach within a 24/7 staffed facility.

Qualifications

• AA degree or two years of higher education or equivalent field experience.
• Sensitivity to the needs of unhoused individuals and populations.
• Experience working with unhoused populations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct client service and safety for participants and guests.
• Document services in HMIS within 3 business days.
• Complete intakes and VI-SPDAT assessments.
• Develop and update housing plans with participants.
• Provide information and referrals to housing resources.
• Lead on-site workshops and respond to crises using de-escalation techniques.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct on site.
