Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is seeking a dedicated Patient Access professional to greet patients, register them promptly, and collect essential demographic and insurance information. The role requires familiarity with EPIC RTE, CPT and procedure codes, and the ability to explain deductibles and co-pays to patients.

Ideal candidates have at least one year in a healthcare-related field, strong organizational and communication skills, and the capacity to guide patients through insurance

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED.
• At least one year of experience working in healthcare related field, preferably finance.
• Adequate keyboard skills (40 words per minute typing rate).
• Basic computer skills.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, including ability to discuss medical issues.
• Negotiation skills including assertiveness and being proactive.
• Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Ability to communicate with patients, family, peers and medical personnel; Basic math skills and appropriate phone etiquette.
• Requires emotional stability and resilience; Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrates foresight; Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.

Responsibilities

• Greets all customers in a professional and friendly manner.
• Ensure patients receive a timely registration and typically do not exceed 15 minutes.
• Collects updated demographic information and accurately codes information on all patients.
• Obtains all signatures, using e-signatures, paying special attention to Medicare patients.
• Obtains a copy of the patient’s photo ID and insurance card; documents scanned to accounts.
• Notifies the insurance representative for insurance verification and initiation of authorization when necessary.
• Knowledge of LCMH Financial Assistance program and ability to explain it to customers.
• Assists with patient flow and clears backlog in assigned area.
• Discuss MyChart and encourage patients to provide their email address.
• Notifies House Supervisor or Transfer Service of direct admissions.
