Job summary

St. Joseph’s Health in Paterson, NJ is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to support the Emergency Department with STAT orders, patient transport, and discharge assistance.

You will assist acutely ill patients with daily living activities, perform EKGs and venipuncture, and document in the EMR, ensuring patient safety and comfort. You will contribute to a safe, clean environment and collaborate with nursing staff to monitor patients and respond to calls.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be able to read and understand written instruction.
• Active CPR certificate must be obtained within probationary period and maintained throughout employment.
• Active PCA certificate or PCA experience and EKG and Phlebotomy certificates required.
• If no active PCA certificate, successful completion of UAP, CNA, EMT or enrollment in nursing program prior to probation completion.
• Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform STAT requests for specimens and patients.
• Assist in discharge to designated areas and transport patients as needed.
• Utilize EMR for order entry, admission, transfer, and discharge functions.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide basic care.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment and monitor patient safety.
• Perform EKGs and venipuncture, POCT and continuous/close observations as directed by RN.
• Log patients' attire and valuables per policy; monitor CM, NIBP, and SpO2 as needed.
• Enter data into EMR promptly and update Sorian as required.
• Answer phones professionally and timely.
