Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. in Moorpark, CA is seeking an entry-level Software Engineer I (Embedded) to develop software for unmanned and robotic systems. You will write and test code for embedded devices, design software for prototypes, and support integration with sensors and flight test platforms.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience.
• Proficient with Python, C, C++11, C++ STL and/or OpenCL.
• Experienced with Visual Studio, Eclipse or similar IDE and defect tracking tools.
• Experience with RS-485, RS-232, CAN, I2C, SPI, USB.
• Periodic travel to testing locations.
• Long hours may be required around deadlines and during field tests.

Responsibilities

• Writes and tests software to support integration of sensors and embedded processors into aircraft or robotic systems.
• Designs and implements software for prototypes and products using established AeroVironment and industry tools; ensure configuration control.
• Assists in writing system requirements, test plans, diagnostic tools, and validation testing; advise on hardware needs.
• Supports rapid prototyping and estimates time to develop software within project budget.
• Collaborates with other engineering disciplines and supports transition to production and certification.
• Develops proof of concept demonstrations and participates in design reviews.
• Follows AV's software development process to produce quality code under supervision.
